UPDATE: Lander Rural Fire shared a video on its Facebook page showing that air support was able to make it to the area shortly before 5 PM to pour fire retardant over the smoldering areas.
UPDATE: Fremont County Fire Protection District Chief Ron Wempen confirmed that the fire was indeed caused by lightning.
(Fremont County, WY) – The Hornecker Creek Fire is currently burning at 3 acres, in the area west of Sinks Canyon Road (WY 131), off of Lander Mountain Road, according to the latest Watch Duty App update posted around 4:10 PM.
Unconfirmed scanner traffic indicates a lightning strike caused the fire.
Recent scanner traffic indicates multiple fire agencies are on-scene, and that air support is unable to assist with the fire due to current weather conditions.
A scanner update made at 4:27 reported that forward progression of the fire has stopped.
