(Riverton, WY) – Riverton Mayor Tim Hancock administered the oath of office to three new members of the Riverton City Council this week: Eric Carr, Karen Johnson, and Rebecca Pierson-Lewis.
“Thank you very much (for) being willing to sacrifice your time, your energy, and your talents for our community,” Hancock told the trio after they had taken their seats on the dais. “It’s very exciting to have you on board. (We’re) looking forward to what you can add to our community and to our council.”
Johnson said she was “humbled” and “excited” to begin her term in office.
“I look forward to working together with the council, making some new positive changes hopefully, and seeing how the city and the community can grow,” Johnson said, adding, “I’m looking forward to a lot of community input and involvement, and I hope that happens.”
She also thanked her family and those who voted for her – a sentiment Carr echoed.
“(I’m) deeply appreciative to everyone … that helped me get here,” he said.
Pierson-Lewis expressed gratitude for her new position as well.
“I’m humbled and grateful to be here,” she said. “I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
Pierson-Lewis was appointed to the Riverton Finance Committee and the Fremont County School District 25 Recreation Board during Tuesday’s meeting.
Johnson was appointed to the Riverton Finance Committee and the FCSD 25 Recreation Board, and Hancock noted that she was previously selected as a member of the city’s Tourism Asset Development program application review committee along with Councilmembers Mike Bailey and Karla Borders.
Carr was appointed to the Riverton Finance Committee and the Wind Rivers Visitors Council, and he will serve as council liaison to the Riverton Planning Commission.
Councilmember Kyle Larson was appointed to the Fremont County Solid Waste Disposal District and will serve as the council liaison to the Riverton Downtowners.
Bailey was elected as Council President and appointed to the Riverton Airport Board, the Fix Our Roads Citizens Committee, and the Riverton Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center.
Borders was elected as Council Vice President and appointed to the PAWS Board and the Senior Center Endowment Board, and she will serve as the council’s Tribal Liaison.
Hancock will represent the city as a member of the Fremont County Association of Governments and serve as the council liaison to the Fremont County Commission.
