(Morton, WY) – Over 100 locals gathered for the Indigenous Peoples Day ‘Buffalo Bash’ celebration at the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative on Monday. The festivities included a full dinner with two types of buffalo stew, fry bread with choke cherry sauce, among other dishes, which were free to those who attended.
Musicians performing at the Bash included local act Pigasus, local hip-hop artist and activist Big Wind Carpenter, and Jackie Bird, who traveled to play the blues all the way from South Dakota.
At sunset, visitors packed into their cars to take a caravan drive around the buffalo pasture on the property. The sunset was as bright and as colorful as any fall day gets on the Wind Rivers. More music and gathering around the campfire rounded out the evening in Morton.
Big Wind Carpenter kicked off the night with a hip-hop set at the Tribal Buffalo Initiative. Volunteers from the Wyoming Outdoor Council served food to a long line of visitors at the Buffalo Initiative Monday. A caravan formed to tour the buffalo pasture at the Initiative Monday in Morton. The Eastern Shoshone buffalo herd grazed ontop of a hill Monday at sunset. Sophia Lozito smiled out of her car on the buffalo tour as the sun set Monday night. Family and friends gathered in cars for a tour of the pasture late Monday for Indigenous Peoples Day at the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative. 
Hoop dancer and blues rocker Jackie Bird performed a native-inspired rock set for the Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration Monday night in Morton. Locals gathered to listen to music and celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day in Morton Monday. This year’s turnout was the biggest yet at the annual gathering. Jackie Bird played with her son on drums Monday night for the Tribal Buffalo Initiative celebration.
