(Statewide) – The National Weather Service in Riverton has shared that much of Wyoming and parts of Fremont County are starting to see thickening smoke, due to wildfires across the Intermountain West.
This area includes the Great Basin, Colorado Plateau, Middle Rocky Mountains, and Northern Rocky Mountains.
The graphic below shows current smoke density, with the warm colors focused over large fires out west.
As of this writing there are no air quality alerts for our area (if one is issued it can be found here), but the fire and smoke map from fire.airnow.gov indicates that both Lander and Riverton have an Air Quality Index rating of “Moderate.”
Under the “Moderate” rating, “unusually sensitive people” should reduce outdoor activity.
The NWSR says to expect to see smoke continue over the weekend.
