(Lander, WY) In the last few election cycles the Lander Chamber of Commerce has hosted a Meet the Candidates Evening Social near the general election. It will do so again this year but is also co-hosting a second social with the Riverton Chamber of Commerce in Riverton.
The first of the two events will take place next Friday, September 27th between 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the 307 Bar and Grill located at the Riverton Country Club. The second will take place one week later, Friday, October 4th within the same time slot at the Inn at Lander.
“As in the past, these will not be formal debates or candidate forums,’ explained Lander Chamber CEO Owen Sweeney, “but rather an intentionally relaxed, nonpartisan meet-and-greet designed to allow both candidates and Lander and Riverton chamber members to converse in a more intimate setting. We also invite members of the public to attend.”
Candidates for the Wyoming Legislature, Fremont County Commission, Lander and Riverton city councils, and Lander and Riverton school boards, have been invited, as well as spokesmen for the Forward Fremont County PAC (½-cent economic development tax) and Citizens for Improved Roads PAC (1-cent roads tax).
“Residents and candidates alike have really appreciated our laid-back approach,” said Sweeney. “There are other local organizations that put on excellent candidate forums, and we saw no need to host a ‘me-too’ event. We wanted to do something different, and folks have responded positively. We’re also very pleased to be partnering with the Riverton Chamber this year.”
