(Lander, WY)—The Lander Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Meet the Candidates Evening Social at the Inn at Lander this Friday, October 4th, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
“In addition to the candidates themselves, we’ll also be hearing from representatives of three political action committees,” said Lander Chamber CEO Owen Sweeney. “Two PACs have been formed in support of and in opposition to the ½-cent economic development sales tax, as well as a third PAC in support of the 1-cent roads and infrastructure tax. These are important issues, and there is a healthy debate going on right now about the ½-cent. For folks wanting to hear both sides in the same room, we encourage them to attend tonight. Originally held in Lander during the 2020 general election cycle, the Lander Chamber’s Meet the Candidates Evening Socials are not debates or forums, but rather intentionally relaxed, nonpartisan meet-and-greets designed to allow both candidates and chamber members to converse in a more intimate setting. Members of the public are welcome to attend, and tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets for Chamber of Commerce members are $15 and $20 for non-members.
Chamber members and guests can expect to hear from at least 13 candidates running for the Wyoming House of Representatives, Fremont County Commission, Lander School Board (FCSD #1), and Lander City Council. As noted above, representatives of Citizens Affirming Sensible Taxes (CAST) (opposed to ½-cent), the Forward Fremont County PAC (in support of ½-cent) and the Citizens for Improved Roads PAC (1-cent roads tax) also have confirmed their participation.
