(Lander, WY) – Lander Chamber of Commerce CEO Owen Sweeney recently shared that local businesses are receiving letters and forms like the one pictured below, instructing them to file and pay a fee to report their company’s Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) with the U.S. Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). 
Beneficial ownership information (BOI) “refers to identifying details about the individuals who ultimately own or control a company, including their names, dates of birth, addresses, and identifying numbers like passport or driver’s license.
“BOI reporting is no longer required,” Sweeney also shared, and warned that these letters/forms are most likely a scam attempt.
An alert on the FinCEN website states the following:
“All entities created in the United States — including those previously known as “domestic reporting companies” — and their beneficial owners are now exempt from the requirement to report beneficial ownership information (BOI) to FinCEN. Existing foreign companies that must report their beneficial ownership information have at least an additional 30 days from March 26, 2025—until April 25, 2025, for most companies—to do so.”
