(Lander, WY) – The Lander Elks Lodge No. 2317 presented a $1,000 check to the Lander Community Veterans Resource Center on Tuesday, September 24, which will go toward upgrading computers at the Center.
Located at 190 Custer Street in Lander, the Resource Center was created “for the purpose of establishing, maintaining and operating a drug-and-alcohol-free venue at which we will provide our military veteran community with access to free onsite activities, resources, programs and services offered by the Center or through collaborative partnerships with federal, state and local agencies and other nonprofit organizations.”
The Center’s Lori Tanner told County 10 that they were contacted by Kary Sommers from the Elks, who shared they were “interested in offering us the opportunity to apply for a grant through the Elks Foundation.”
“It was called the Freedom Grant,” Lander Elks Exalted Ruler Mike Juvinall clarified. “One of the largest projects that the Elks Lodge participates in is giving back to veterans programs, not only locally, but throughout the whole United States.”
“At that time, we were working on how to upgrade donated computers and that seemed like the best use of the potential funds,” Tanner added.”We are very grateful to Kary Sommers, the Elks Foundation and our local Elks Lodge members as this will help us to provide even more services to our local veterans!”
