(Lander, WY) – The Lander Free Medical Clinic held its first meeting in the Carnegie Room at the Lander Library on Wednesday, November 10th.
The Clinic, a grassroots effort spearheaded by local RN Kevin Wilson, aims to provide medical care to those in the community who are underinsured or without health insurance.
Over 20 members of the community showed up at the Wednesday meeting, ranging from local health care workers to citizens interested in the idea of medical care that would not cause a financial burden.
Wilson, who also worked with Team Rubicon in Haiti providing medical care to aid in earthquake relief efforts, stated the goal is to have the Clinic open by December of 2022, and to provide services for at least 75 unique patients by the end of 2023.
Among the services the Lander Free Medical Clinic hopes to provide: primary medical care, physicals, general wellness exams, chronic disease care management, screenings (mammogram and colon cancer), care coordination, testing, health education, smoking cessation, health navigation, immunizations, low or no cost medications, and other potential services.
A tenuous timeline of the next steps includes forming a Board of Directors by December of 2021, being ready for the Challenge for Charities in July of 2022, acquire/finalize office space arrangements and begin purchasing necessary materials by October of 2022, and to start seeing patients by December of 2022.
