(Lander, WY) – The Lander Police Department recognized two employee promotions this week, advancing former Corporal David Milovich to the rank of Sergeant and Officer Casey Tadewald to the rank of Corporal.
In order to achieve their promotions, LPD Chief Kelly Waugh said both men read books on leadership, reviewed municipal policies, and took written and oral tests.
“They took this very seriously,” he told the Lander City Council during a special meeting Tuesday.
Milovich has spent 24 years of his life in Fremont County and has been working in law enforcement for nearly nine years, including positions with the Riverton Police Department and in Broomfield, Colorado, Waugh said.
He is currently one of the LPD’s field training officers, Waugh noted, offering taser instruction, field sobriety test instruction, and Gracie Survival Tactics instruction.
“He’s devoted a lot of time and effort to be a part of Lander,” Waugh said.
Waugh said Tadewald began his law enforcement career with Niobrara County in 2011, but he transferred to the Fremont County Detention Center in 2012, where he “gained valuable experience” before transitioning to the RPD patrol team, “expanding his law enforcement experience through proactive policing, special response team and the community engagement team for Riverton.”
Since he joined the LPD in 2021, Waugh said Tadewald has “continued to serve with the utmost professionalism, dedication and commitment to public safety,” serving as a custody and control instructor, a breathalyzer instructor, a Gracie Survival Tactics instructor, and a nationally certified use-of-force expert instructor.
“Throughout his 15 years in law enforcement, he’s consistently sought opportunities to enhance his skills and contribute to the development of fellow officers,” Waugh said, adding that Tadewald was recently recognized at the state level for “the work that he’s done to have an impact on impaired driving.”
“Both Sergeant Milovich and Corporal Tadewald have consistently demonstrated professionalism, leadership, dedication, and a strong commitment to serving the citizens of Lander, (and) their hard work, initiative, and devotion to the department have earned the respect of their peers and supervisors alike,” the LPD said in a Facebook post this week. “These promotions reflect not only their accomplishments to date but also the confidence we have in their ability to continue leading and serving our community at the highest level. … We look forward to (their) continued success and leadership within the Lander Police Department.”
