(Lander, WY) – The promotions of Lander Police Department (LPD) Officers Jacob Halsmer and David Milovich were celebrated at Tuesday night’s Lander City Council meeting, where both were sworn in as Corporals.
“You’re seeing the future leaders of Lander,” LPD Chief Scott Peters commented at the meeting. “This is their first step up.”
Before they were officially sworn in, Chief Peters thanked both men for partaking in what is often a “thankless job,” and then specifically thanked their wives and family.
“I want to thank the wives that are here and the family for being patient. I truly mean that,” Chief Peters stated before mentioning the “unintentional neglect” that families of officers have to go through. “Missing holidays, missing sporting events, you know, being patient. …The wives and the family don’t get thanked enough.”
Chief Peters shared that Corporal Halmser has been with LPD for 12 years.
“He’s got the intelligence, the thoughtfulness, just the whole package when it comes down to it,” Chief Peters commented. “I’m very proud of Jake, how far he’s coming.”
“Officer Halsmer has been instrumental in daily duties of a police officer as well as specialized training, namely firearms, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to public safety and community engagement,” a recent LPD press release also shared.
Chief Peters then shared that Corporal Milovich started his career with him in Riverton eight years ago before they both ended up in Lander.
“I didn’t call him by his correct name for a whole year,” Chief Peters joked. “I don’t know what I called him. I think I called him Bill or something. That’s the personality he has and how good of a person he is. Not once did he correct me until a year later and I was floored.”
Corporal Milovich then moved to Colorado before coming back to Wyoming, Chief Peters explained, adding the he “shines through” in “what he can offer” to the LPD.
“Officer Milovich’s efforts have been crucial in advancing leadership and educating of fellow officers, furthering our mission of public safety,” the press release also shared.
“Both Officer Halsmer and Officer Milovich have shown exemplary leadership and a deep dedication to the well-being of our community. Their promotions are well-deserved, and I am confident they will continue to excel in their new roles.”
