(Lander, WY) – The Lander Tigers added another to their win column, nearly shutting out Powell 48-7 Friday night at Bill Bush Stadium.
The Tigers appeared to have a better handle on every aspect of the game than the visiting Panthers, putting up 22 points in the first quarter with minimal resistance. This marks the first time Lander has come out on top of this match since they won in overtime in their regular-season matchup in 2018.
The Tigers’ offense clicked in thanks to their offensive line creating space and time for Paxon Hollingshead at quarterback and holes for Brayden Baker at running back. Hollingshead was able to gain 181 with his arm, passing for two touchdowns along the way. Most of his completed passes found Finn McFadden, who racked up 131 receiving yards on five catches to go along with the Tigers’ final touchdown.
The Panthers tried their best to stop Brayden Baker, but came up short, allowing him 114 yards and three touchdowns. It was clear that once Baker gained a head of steam, no one could stop him, let alone catch him.
Lander played tough defense Friday, only allowing 98 rushing yards and 48 passing yards. The only score Powell had was in the fourth quarter when Lander had taken most of their starters out.
Lander will look to continue their early unbeaten streak when they travel southeast to play the Evanston Devils next Friday night.
Coach Burton and Brayden Baker celebrated a touchdown early in the first quarter. 
Baker tried to jump out of a tackle Friday night in Lander. Gavin Romer took a swig as the offense called a timeout in the first quarter. Jim Burton talked to a player after a posession change. Burton is looking to improve on the Tigers 2024 record of 4-5, and he’s off to a solid start at 2-0. Finn McFadden tried to break a tackle for the Tigers. The wide receiver had 131 yards and a touchdown during the win. Gus Childers laid out for a tackle Friday in Lander.
