(Lander, WY) – The Twin Creek Fire located southeast of Lander is “contained and holding,” as of today, July 5, according to a release issued Sunday evening by the Lander Rural Fire Battalion of the Fremont County Fire Protection District.
“At approximately 1:30 pm yesterday (July 4), Lander Rural Assistant Chief, Kaleb Jones, called in a column of smoke out by Twin Creek while on his way to an accident call in Jeffrey City,” Lander Rural shared in the release. “Lander Rural Fire department was quickly cancelled off the Jeffery City call and directed toward the growing wildland fire. Additional units were quickly called in since growing winds, endless Juniper trees for fuel, and inaccessible terrain gave the fire plenty of directions to grow. US Forest Service assistant engine boss and Lander Rural fire training captain Blake Davidson took over incident command as apparatus moved towards the fire.”
The release states that “multiple outside assets were called in for an initial attack,” including the Lakeview heli attack team, which assisted with “a type three helicopter, a type one helicopter, and multiple SEATS and LATS.”
Additional forest service fire teams, BLM fire teams, and the Gannet Peak State Forest mod were called in to assist as the fire grew to 1,200 acres by Saturday night.
The release concludes by stating that the fire is “contained and holding.”
No cause has been shared at this time. County 10 will share updates as they become available.
