(Lander, WY) – The Fremont County School District (FCSD) #1 school board is set to convene for a regular meeting on Tuesday, July 16, at the district offices located at 863 Sweetwater Street.
The meeting will commence immediately after the Public Hearing on the proposed 2024/25 budget for FCSD #1 and the Tiger Joint Powers Board, which begins at 6pm.
On the agenda for the meeting is the first reading of policies GMA and JMA, concerning staff and student “Transgender Considerations.”
The policies begin with the following preamble:
“WHEREAS national, state, and local discussions surrounding transgender privileges and rights have become more prominent; and
WHEREAS the presence of transgender administrators, faculty, staff, and/or students within Fremont County School District #1 (FCSD #1) is increasingly likely; and
WHEREAS proactive policy setting is far superior to reactive policy development; and
WHEREAS FCSD #1 must balance the individual rights of transgender administrators, faculty, staff, students, and parents/guardians with the collective rights of non-transgender administrators, faculty, staff, students, and parents/guardians;
BE IT RESOLVED THAT the following represents the policy of FCSD #1 surrounding transgender considerations.“
The policy consideration topics then include the following: Name and Gender Identification Changes, Referring to Others: Names and Pronouns, Restroom Usage, Dress Code, Extracurricular Participation, Non-Athletic Extracurricular Activities, Sports, Locker/Dressing Rooms, Overnight Housing, Parental Rights and Notification and Other Policy Considerations.
