Laura Koch and Shelby Cress from the Lander Art Center stopped by Coffee Time to chat with Vincent Tropea this month to discuss what summer events will be here soon.
“Lander through the Lens,” the LAC’s first photography show, ends its exhibit on Saturday, May 3. All skill levels are represented in the show, which was free to enter for anyone interested.
SHELBY: Lander has a really unique vibe, so it’s been really fascinating to see how the photographers have been interpreting that. We’re featuring the work of Libby Littler; she and her husband own Wind River Outpost right down the street from us. Her landscape photography is breathtaking.

The 2025 Student Art Exhibition will open May 8th, celebrating the work of youth and adult students at Lander Art Center in the same exhibition for the first time. Artwork from Pamela Sipe’s kids’ classes; Lander Burton’s watercolor, oil painting, and drawing students; our January–March figure drawing sessions; and clay studio participants will all be on display.
LAURA: The kids are super excited about this. They love it when they see they other kids’ art. It will be really fun to see the things children made this year. A lot of art that was made this year was three-dimensional. They made 3D animals, and dioramas, and they’re doing something with felt and ribbon and string right now.
The Opening Reception for the student art show is Thursday, May 8 at 6 p.m.
There’s still time to register for this summer’s kids classes, including learning how to make mosaic rocks and “Art Sprouts,” where children ages four through six will make paper bugs — like grasshoppers and fireflies — every Monday in June and July. Summer Art Camp is in August, and if you sign up before before May 31 you can save $25 with the code EARLYCAMP!
In June, summer brings the Lander Art Center’s Member Show. It will start June 5th and continue through July 18th, showcasing a wide range of artistic mediums and styles from all Lander Art Center members.
LAURA: The exhibit will be up through the Fourth of July so bring your family down. We’re going to be open on Sunday, the sixth of July because we know there’s a lot of folks in town and maybe after church you wanna take a walk and get a cup of coffee, come to the Art Center and look at the Member Show.
Applications are now open for Summerfest (due back June 7th) for the annual festival in the Lander City Park on Saturday, June 21st. Those interested in being a vendor at the show can find the application here. The event will once again feature “Lander’s Got Talent” for the kids, as well as a duck race.
