(Lander, WY) – Lander Valley High School cross Country runners Dorothy Jensen and Logan Milek capped their seasons with an extended challenge last weekend, competing at the Nike Cross Regional Northwest meet in Spokane, WA. The event draws top high school talent from Alaska, Washington, Hawaii, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and Oregon.
Both runners spent three additional weeks of training beyond the Wyoming state meet in Cheyenne to prepare for the November 15th competition where they raced the season’s last 5k.
Jensen, a sophomore, racing in the championship race finished 71st out of 201 and posted a personal best time of 18:36. Milek, a senior, competed in the open race and placed 352nd out of 1238, with a time of 16:49.
Head coach Misty Atnip said she was proud of the extra work both of her athletes put in after the regular season had ended. “Dorothy PRed with a 18:36 and Logan Milek ran a strong race with 16:49,” said Atnip. “I’m super proud of their dedication to put in the extra effort after the state race and their strong work during this past summer and regular season.”
Milek recently visited Montana State University Billings and trained with the team as he considers collegiate running. Jensen, who still has two more years left at LVHS, will return next fall with strong momentum. “I can’t wait to see what she accomplishes over the next few years,” said Atnip.
