(Fremont County, WY) – County 10 meteorologist Dave Lipson has shared that a moisture-laden, slow-moving trough of low pressure lined up along the Rocky Mountains will inch its way east across the area today, March 14, which will lead to continued snow until about mid-day.
Northeasterly upslope flow is the “main driver” of this snowfall within the trough, Lipson added, which accounts for the tight snowfall gradient running from northeast to southwest.
Riverton should have about an inch by mid-day, 2-4 inches in Hudson, and 4-8 inches in Lander, with the Sinks Canyon area expected to see 1 to 2 feet of snow.
The heavy snow should taper off to light snow or flurries in the Lander foothills by this afternoon and evening, with Riverton experiencing mostly cloudy skies by that same time.
Expect northern winds of 20-30 mph today as well.
The National Weather Service in Riverton also shared that clouds will remain into the overnight hours, before improving for Friday as cooler temperatures remain.
Highs will be in the 30’s and lower 40’s for most today, with the South Pass area topping out at 23 degrees.
Lows tonight will be in the 20’s and teens.
