(Fremont County) – A Type 6 Engine Crew with the Fremont County Fire Protection District (FCFPD) and Riverton Fire Department (RFD) members are headed to Hulett this morning, June 14, to assist with the Creek Fire near Hulett and the Wyoming, South Dakota and Montana border.
The fire was at a reported 1,100 acres last night, according to the most up-to-date information on fire.airnow.gov, but a recent post on the Bureau of Land Management Facebook page indicates that it has grown to 1,448 acres.
That BLM post states that a Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management team assumed command of the fire yesterday.
The fire is “on a mix of private, State, and BLM lands,” the post informs, and firefighters have implemented a strategy of “full suppression, utilizing direct, indirect, and burning operations to control the fire.”
“Local partners have dedicated all available resources to supporting fire operations,” the post continues in reference to agencies like FCFPD and RFD, and concludes by stating the following:
“While there is some form of control line around the entirety of the fire, threats to the line remain as a result of unburned, interior islands of vegetation. The fire is primarily spotting in juniper, with patches of green grass left largely unburned. The fire is exhibiting “high fire behavior”, torching and running on the northern end while smoldering and creeping to the south. We thank local first responders who arrived first on-scene, tirelessly fighting the fire, as well as members of the community that came to assist.”
