(Fremont County, WY) – For anyone hoping for a White Christmas in Fremont County, you will most likely be disappointed on December 25.
The National Weather Service in Riverton has shared that a winter storm will move through the region from Christmas Eve (Tuesday night) into Christmas morning (Wednesday), but it won’t bring much snow accumulation.
County 10 meteorologist Dave Lipson’s forecast echoes as much, and he says that the weak trough of low pressure tracking across the area will only bring a “dusting of snow flurries” on Christmas Day, with high temperatures expected to be in the 40’s.
Lipson advises that if you want to increase your chances of seeing some snowfall, head to the Boysen Dam, Wind River Canyon, or South Pass areas, where we could see up to an inch of fresh snowfall, or head to Togwotee Pass, where there has already been some substantial snow accumulation.
The NWSR forecast discussion indicates that the weather system will “begin Tuesday evening across western Wyoming, with light snow (and even rain) chances spreading east across the remainder of the area through Wednesday morning.”
“Emphasis should be noted on “light”, however, as this system will be lacking moisture (and the more favorable dynamics situated to our south). Even the western mountains are only favored to see a couple of inches of snow Wednesday (approx. 50% chance of exceeding two inches).”
