(Lander, WY) – The Lander Police Department (LPD) has issued an apology in regard to the Monday, March 3, 2025, “alleged porch package theft incident” in Lander.
“The Lander Police Department would like to apologize to the gentleman (and his family) depicted in the still camera image,” the post reads. “The end result was not a theft, but rather a simple delivery error.”
The incident involved an individual who witnessed a male subject taking a package from a porch in the Lander area. The reporting party made the call to LPD at 5:12 PM on March 3, claiming the subject was “walking around the neighborhood stealing packages,” according to the March 4 LPD call log.
The LPD soon obtained a photo of the subject who had been accused of the theft, and later shared a post with that subject’s picture on their Facebook page Monday evening, asking for community assistance to help identify him.
A few hours later, LPD shared another post indicating that the situation had been resolved.
County 10 soon followed up with the LPD, who confirmed that the incident was a misunderstanding and that the individual in the picture was actually retrieving a package meant for them that was delivered to the wrong address. The article was then updated, with the photo being removed. The LPD also later removed the subject’s photo from the original post.
“LPD admits fault in regards to the post not being correctly updated immediately,” today’s apology post concludes. “We ask for the community’s support in not portraying or misrepresenting the gentleman depicted in the photo as a thief, as he is not.”
