(Fremont County, WY) – The Lander Police Department has shared that the Wyoming Department of Transportation has verified that recent scam texts claiming unpaid fines have been making the rounds.
An example of the text being sent by scammers is pictured below.
WYDOt has provided the following tips to watch for regarding scams:
- Tolling authorities typically mail toll bills. Wyoming has no toll roads, and WYDOT does not have a method to accept payment for toll bills in other states.
- WYDOT does not offer a way to pay citations online – all citations from law enforcement are handled through the court system.
- WYDOT will never text or call you from a foreign number.
- Any information or messaging about driver licenses will not be from “The DMV” – WYDOT calls itself Driver Services
