(Lander, WY) – The Lander Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fully involved structure fire inside a residential structure at approximately 12:40 AM early Thursday morning, March 12, according to details shared with County 10 from LVFD Chief Eric Siwik.
Chief Siwik said that all occupants were out of the structure upon arrival, and no injuries were reported.
“Mutual aid was requested from Fremont County Fire Protection District battalions 3 and 1,” Chief Siwik added. “Crews suppressed the initial fire, with knock-down completed within an hour. Crews remained on scene to finish extinguishing hot spots and monitor.”
Chief Siwik went on to share that Command Crews were still on scene at 6:50 AM when the fire started to flare up due to the heavy winds, and fire crews were called back to the scene, with additional help from FCFPD Battalion 10.
“During this timeframe, a small grass fire started at a neighboring property across the street that was quickly extinguished,” Chief Siwik continued. “In total throughout the incident there were approximately 13 apparatus with 36 firefighters. In addition to these resources, assistance was provided by the Lander Police Department, Frontier Ambulance, City of Lander Public Works, and Water Treatment Plant employees.”
Chief Siwik says that as of about 11:30 AM, crews are still on scene, “extinguishing hot spots and mitigating collapse hazards for the safety of the public.”

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Wyoming State Fire Marshal’s Office.
