(Fremont County, WY) – The League of Women Voters of Fremont County has issued an apology after the print edition of their General Election Voter Guide omitted information about a candidate for House District 55, and placed information about another candidate in the wrong district.
“Due to an editorial error in the printed General Election Voter Guide, the questions and answers for HD 55 candidate Joel Guggenmos were inadvertently excluded, and the questions and answers for Rep. Lloyd Larsen, candidate and incumbent for HD 54, were printed under House District 55. The correct information is now available on Vote411 (www.vote411.org) and will be available in the digital version of the General Election Voter Guide, released in early October,” the League said in a statement released Thursday.
“Additionally, the Fremont County Library has printed inserts with the correct information, which will be available with copies of the guide. We apologize to the voters for this oversight, especially candidates Joel Guggenmos and Lloyd Larsen. The League has contacted both candidates by voice and email. All efforts and steps are being taken to correct the information.”
The League is expected to have distributed the print edition of its General Election Voter Guide to over 19,000 households in Fremont County.
Previously, the League of Women Voters of Fremont County had expressed disappointment in Guggenmos’ decision to forgo a July 23rd Candidate Forum the group co-hosted with the Fremont County Republican Party, the Republican Women of Fremont County PAC, and the Fremont County Democratic Party.
Several state legislative candidates similarly declined invitations from LWVFC to attend primary election forums held in Shoshoni, Dubois, and Lander over the summer.
In a July 2024 newspaper ad undersigned by Guggenmos, Senator Tim Salazar, Representative Pepper Ottman, Representative Sarah Penn, and House District 54 candidate Tina Clifford, the respective campaigns jointly boycotted the LWVFC forums.
“We are not confident that the League is as non-partisan as the League claims,” the ad stated.
Linda Barton, Chair of League of Women Voters of Fremont County, reiterated the League’s stated mission as a nonpartisan organization encouraging active participation in elections at the July 23rd forum.
“The League believes voters should play a critical role in democracy and encourages informed and active government participation. The League is dedicated to voter education voter rights, and providing information that helps voters make informed decisions at the polls,” Barton said. “The League does not support or endorse any candidate running for office.”
