(Riverton, WY) – A structure fire reported yesterday evening, March 18, resulted in the loss of a shop and trailer at a residence on Young Road in Riverton, the Riverton Fire Department shared with County 10.
“The structure fire on Young Road originated in a detached shop and spread to a trailer that was parked next to the shop,” RFD Public Information Officer Henri DeClercq stated. “They were both total losses. There were no injuries.”
DeClercq said the cause is under investigation, but “presumed to be accidental.”
In total, RFD responded with two engines, three tankers, and command vehicles on scene, with 17 responders in all.
“We would urge caution while using any potentially flammable chemicals, keeping your workspace clear of flammable liquids and other materials, and remind everyone to consider how you store flammable products,” DeClercq added. “The best option is to store flammables in an approved cabinet. We also want to remind everyone that when a fire starts in a home or shop, to evacuate quickly and safely, as you cannot re-enter the structure to retrieve property. This is extremely risky as fires evolve and spread rapidly.”
