Meet local author Mike Toyne on Saturday, September 21st at 9:30 am at the Lander Library! Mike will be speaking about his latest book, Bull in a China Shop, which details his father’s life as an Iowa farm boy growing up during the Depression and becoming a cattle buyer in the West from the 1950s–1980s.
Mr. Toyne describes the book as, “A true story about an Iowa farm boy growing up during the Depression and dreaming about going West to join the cattle business. With dedication and hard work, he was able to live the dream. He said no to his family business of farming and went after his dream, which many might say was at a high cost. He became a highly successful cattle buyer for 30+ years, mainly in Wyoming and Montana. The story is told through his eyes based on his memoirs. Characters in the book embody what I call the greatest generation. Courageous, honest people who survived tough times based on their faith, family, and hard work. They are the backbone of what made this country great. Their stories recall humor, friendship, and sadness. Many of them are gone, but by documenting their memories and stories, they will live on for future generations.”
The author talk will be followed by a book signing. This event is free and open to the public.
