(Riverton, WY) – Several hundred folks travel to the Wyoming Fire Academy in January for the annual Mid-Winter Fire School. Attendees range from firefighters to emergency medical responders from across Wyoming and neighboring states.
Riverton has hosted the Mid-Winter Fire School for over 40 years, and for the first time ever, it has been canceled this year, according to Riverton Fire Department Chief Henri DeClercq. “We just couldn’t see bringing 400 people into the area right now, or planning and purchasing everything then not getting any attendance.”
This school, which is both classroom-based and hands-on in the field, allows participants to receive certifications and hone their skills. A variety of training options are available like auto extrication, fire behavior, off-road driving, and leadership classes just to name a few.
DeClercq shared he doesn’t foresee rescheduling this training here locally this year. However, Cody hosts training in May and Wheatland in September.
