(Fremont County, WY) – County 10 meteorologist Dave Lipson has shared that a mid and upper-level low-pressure center will develop over Montana today, April 1, which will strengthen as it moves east toward the Northern Plains this afternoon. Around the same time, a surface low will develop over Eastern Colorado, and as it travels east toward the Central Plains, it will also deepen and strengthen.
Lipson says this will increase our pressure gradient, resulting in northwest winds gusting up to 45 mph, which will usher in cooler air, and possible isolated gusts of up to 50 mph. With the air mass remaining unstable, we will have a continuation of scattered rain/snow pellet showers, with an isolated lightning strike or two. Scattered snow showers are expected to continue into tonight under mostly cloudy skies.
The National Weather Service in Riverton also shared that snow will persist over the western mountains today, with increasing snow for the Bighorn Mountains. The snow showers and snow bands likely won’t be as strong as yesterday.
High temperatures will vary across the 10 today, with Dubois and Jeffrey City in the 30’s, the South Pass area at 27 degrees, and the rest of Fremont County in the 40’s.
Lows tonight will be in the lower 30’s and upper 20’s.
