(Fremont County, WY) – County 10 meteorologist Dave Lipson has shared that today, May 18, snow will mix with or turn back to rain, with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. Snow will fall in the mountains all day, and we will have north winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour.
The heaviest snow will have occured during the morning hours, and by day’s end, we will see 15 to 23 inches, possibly two feet of snow, in Sinks Canyon; 8 to 16 inches in South Pass; 7 to 13 inches in the Beaver Rim area; 3 to 7 inches in eastern Fremont County around Moneta; and Togwotee Pass will get about 2 to 4 inches.
Any snow that has accumulated this morning in the Wind River Basin will likely melt during the day, and we can expect north winds of 30 to 40 with gusts of 50 to 70 miles per hour for at least a few hours on South Pass and on Beaver Rim, where significant blowing and drifting snow will occur along with occasional whiteout conditions.
For tonight, it will be mostly cloudy with some lingering snow showers, then partial clearing, and lows in the upper 20s to around 30 degrees. Some patchy fog late tonight is possible.
For tomorrow, Tuesday, after some morning fog in some areas that should dissipate by 9 a.m., it will be partly sunny with highs in the low 50s and we could see some isolated to wildly scattered showers or thunderstorms mainly over the mountains in the afternoon, some of which will likely produce small hail and gusty winds as moisture and instability move around the backside of the exiting low pressure center.
