(Fremont County, WY) – County 10 meteorologist Dave Lipson has shared that today, May 17, area weather temperatures will be significantly cooler behind last night’s cold front, with a high temperature only in the mid-50s, a good 35 degrees colder than what we have experienced during this past week.
The Pacific trough and a mid-level circulation right over Wyoming will affect the area, and we could see cold rain develop by afternoon. It will be blustery, Lipson added, with north-northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph, and gusts of 35 mph.
Tonight, rain will turn to snow, and the low temperature will be right around the freezing mark. Blustery north winds of 25 to 35 mph will continue, with gusts of 40 mph.
Riverton could wake up to 1 to 2 inches of snow by morning, with Lander seeing 2 to 4 inches due to upslope flow behind the cold front. By tomorrow, Monday, expect snow mixing with or turning back to rain, with a high in the low 40s. Snow will fall in the mountains all day, and we will have north winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour. By day’s end, eastern Fremont County and Beaver Rim could see 3 to 5 inches of new snow, with 3 to 6 inches on South Pass and Sinks Canyon, and 6 to 9 inches in the mountains above 8,500 feet, including Togwotee Pass.
