(Riverton, WY) – Riverton High School Principal John Griffith shared three new course proposals last night during the Fremont County School District #25 board meeting.
The courses include: Geography, AMPED and Healthy Recreation.
The geography class is designed to be a freshman skills level class, according to Griffith.
“This course will provide an overview in the study of the earth, its people and resources, with emphasis placed on the Eastern Hemisphere and will include the study of history, culture, economics, current events and politics of the world,” the description reads.
AMPED (Algebra1 Manufacturing Processes, Entrepreneurship, and Design) is the previous part of geometry and construction, Griffith noted.
According to the description, the class “will teach students all district algebra standards through relevant, interactive, and fun career and technical education projects.”
The third class, Healthy Recreation, is a NOLS collaboration. FCSD #25 Behavior Analyst Cheryl Coleman shared during the meeting she has worked with NOLS to develop a course to serve the district’s at-risk youth.
“Some highlights of their [NOLS] curriculum are focused on judgment and decision making, setting and achieving goals, risk management, and, my personal favorite, tolerance for adversity and uncertainty,” Cheryl noted.
The class would likely take place the first week of August in the Wind River Range. Up to nine students and one FCSD #25 staff member would be able to attend.
The three class proposals were unanimously approved by the board last night.
