(Fremont County, WY) – The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Special Weather Statement for much of Fremont County, effective until 4:30 PM today, August 24, including Lander, Riverton, Shoshoni, Arapahoe, Hudson, and the Boysen State Park area.
“At 3:58 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 8 miles northeast of Ocean Lake to 6 miles
northwest of Arapahoe to near Worthen Meadows Reservoir,” the Statement advises. “Movement was northeast at 25 mph.”
“Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.”
The NWSR says to expect winds gusting up to 50 MPH.
