Today, July 25th, was the annual Community Peace March. Attendees headed to Riverton’s Main Street a little after 8:30 am where they were escorted by the Riverton Police Department from Rotary Park to City Park.
This community-wide event began as a remembrance for the lives affected by the Center for Hope tragedy in 2015 and has evolved to be an all-encompassing celebration of tolerance and peace within the community.
“I would like to say that I am grateful to the City of Riverton, the Riverton Police Department and the Wyoming Highway Department for they’re logistical support for this event,” said organizer Ron Howard.
In years past, guest speakers addressed attendees at the City Park Bandshell. Instead of speakers, talking circles were organized by Riverton Peace Mission co-founder Chesie Lee. This provides the opportunity for all attendees to answer a few questions and share what they are comfortable with.
“I am also very grateful to those who showed up and marched with us, despite the dangers of COVID-19,” Ron continued. “I met some great people today and I hope friendships develop as a result.”
