(Fremont County, WY) – The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Winter Storm Watch for several higher elevation areas in Wyoming this weekend, including the Absaroka Mountains (and northern portions of Fremont County between Dubois and Thermopolis).
The Storm Watch will be in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon.
The NWSR is calling for total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches above 9000 feet, with amounts of 12 to 18 inches above 10000 feet. Elevations between 7,000 and 9,000 feet could see total snow accumulations ranging from just a trace, to 8 inches.
The NWSR is also advising that travel could be difficult at times. WYDOT shared yesterday, October 1, that the Beartooth Highway (US 212) will be closed to travel in anticipation of the storm.
“Planned closure over Beartooth Pass due to predicted winter conditions on October 3, 2025, at noon between Cody and the Montana state line from milepost 0 to 35.2.,” the WYDOT notice states. “Please plan accordingly.”
