(Arapahoe, WY) – The Northern Arapaho Powwow brought dancers from across the country to the Left Hand Ditch powwow grounds Friday through Sunday for three days of contests, songs, and celebration of traditions.

The first grand entry included a remembrance of Daniel J. Oldman, who recently passed away. Oldman was a Marine Corps veteran and served as a police and DARE officer for 27 years.
On Saturday afternoon, BIA Wind River Chief Jolene Makeshine was honored with a star quilt from MMIR 307 and an honor song. Her appointment is a significant one for the Reservation, as she was raised there. Chico Her Many Horses introduced her, joking that he hoped he had been good to her back when she was a student at Wyoming Indian High School. The Little Brave Singers carried the honor song while the MMIR 307 crew, family, and friends walked with Makeshine around the arbor.

Dance contests ran all weekend. The weather stayed cool and good for dancing, with light showers passing through at times, though heavy rain Friday night canceled the late-night dances.
