(Ethete, WY) – Wyoming Indian Middle School’s Red Willow Club hosted its Veterans and Youth Powwow on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Elk Redman Complex, bringing together families and community members to honor military service and local youth accomplishments.
The event opened with a 4 p.m. Grand Entry led by the invited color guard from Richard Pogue Post #81. All veterans and families of veterans were welcomed into the arena to take part in the ceremonies.
The powwow featured honor songs for veterans as well as for fall sports athletes from cross country, football, and volleyball. Dance categories included Tiny Tots, Junior, Teen, Youth, Junior High, and High School, with paid categories across age groups.
Concessions and meals were available and local dancers and singers were invited to participate throughout the evening.
The event was sponsored by Wyoming Indian Middle School’s Red Willow Club, the Wyoming Indian Schools JOM Parent Committee, the Wyoming Indian Schools Rec Board, and Wind River Cares.
