(Lander, WY) – The Lander Tigers were able to regroup from their 1-2 performance a week ago and went undefeated in their second home tournament Friday and Saturday. The Tigers first faced a red-hot Douglas team, who were coming off a win over the #1-ranked Lovell in the morning. The Tigers sustained a 5-10 point lead over the Bearcats early on, but as the game progressed into the 4th, Douglas kept within striking distance.
With less than 10 seconds left in regulation, with the game tied, Douglas missed a shot in the paint, Noah St Clair got the rebound and dribbled the length of the court to a pull-up jumper on the baseline that was just off the mark.
In overtime, the Tigers’ McFadden and Hereford played swarming defense, leading to points for the Tigers off the turnovers, but Douglas wouldn’t go away easily. It took a drive from the top of the key and a well-defended banked shot by Finn McFadden with seven seconds left to seal the deal.
Lander continued their winning ways Saturday morning with a convincing 101-68 win over Burns, and then a 65-54 win over #3-ranked Wheatland.
The weekend’s winnings put the Tigers at 4-2 as they go on break. They’ll start back on Jan. 6th, away at Cody, and won’t play at home again until the 16th, when they host Mountain View.
