UPDATE: As of 12:35 AM the standoff is still ongoing, according to the latest update from RPD, and they are now asking for public assistance to keep officers safe.
“The stand-off on Pinecrest in the City of Riverton is still ongoing. The Police Department is asking the public NOT to publish on social critical information about our Officers’ positions and photos which could jeopardize their safety. This is a sensitive incident and such information could have hazardous consequences on our Officers. A safe resolution to end this standoff is our goal. Please help to be sure our officers go home safely.”
UPDATE: Official details remain limited, but Riverton Police Dept. Chief Eric Hurtado has provided the following information on the standoff, which he confirmed is still active as of 11:20 PM:
“Around 5:00 p.m. the Riverton Police Department went to a home in the 1200 block of Pinecrest to serve a warrant on a person who had made some threats involving a firearm. Upon trying to speak to the subject he produced an apparent firearm. Officers are actively in a standoff with the subject and additional officers from various agencies are assisting the Riverton Police Department. More updates will be provided as they become available. The Natrona County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team are assisting the Riverton Police Department.”
(Riverton, WY) – The Riverton Police Department, Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and other first responders have blocked both ends of Pinecrest Street in Riverton as of 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night.
RPD described via social media that they are, “actively working an incident in the area of Pinecrest & Sunset” and will have more information on their Facebook page when it’s available.
At 9:45 p.m. RPD shared this update, “Our Police officers have blocked off traffic in the affected area near Pinecrest and Sunset due to ongoing police activity. All affected residents have been asked to stay in their homes or have evacuated voluntarily to a safe location until the situation is resolved. More information will be released shortly.”
The Natrona County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team announced that they are assisting with the Riverton incident.
Those who do not live in the area are encouraged to avoid it.
