(Fort Washakie, WY) – Indian relay racing brought high energy and horsemanship to Fort Washakie on June 20 and 21 as part of the Eastern Shoshone Indian Days celebration, local and traveling teams flocked to the track at the rodeo to compete across two days of racing before the powwow got underway.

Pattie Baldes announced the event as riders and relay teams gathered, with fans lining the track fence in the afternoon. Alongside the horse racing, foot races were held for cash prizes across all age groups and genders, giving competitors of every background a chance to test their speed on the dirt track.

In the Ladies Relay Race on Sunday, Iron Byes Relay took first place with jockey Oakley Glick. White Eagle finished second, with Sophia Hernandez as their Jockey.
The Men’s Championship featured four teams: War Chiefs with Kenny Enos, Lonedog Relay with Cadyn Lonedog, Wakpa Relay with Journey Red Bear, and Little Mountain with Weston Birding Ground. Little Mountain took first and Lone Dog Relay finished in second.
