(Hot Springs County, WY) – Rocky Mountain 2 Team has shared the Red Canyon Fire update for today, August 20, which indicates the fire grew to 113,774 acres since yesterday, and remains at 28% containment.
529 personnel are currently addressing the fire.

Yesterday, crews successfully completed firing operations along Pack Saddle Road in Div. G, slowing fire spread despite erratic winds and challenging conditions. Div. M remains a top priority as firefighters and aviation resources work aggressively to hold the south end and keep the fire from crossing Pack Saddle Road.
Operations: Yesterday, fire activity varied across divisions. In Div. M, strong southeast winds drove challenging fire behavior on the south end, where crews and aviation resources worked along Pack Saddle Road to prevent the fire from crossing. Div. G was active on Bull Mountain, with several fingers pushing north until firing operations successfully strengthened the buffer between existing indirect dozer line and along Pack Saddle Road. Today, hot, dry, and erratic conditions continue. Crews in Div. C are securing uncontained areas, while Div. O focuses on mop-up and patrol. Div. M remains the priority, with day and night crews reinforcing fireline and addressing afternoon fire growth toward Pack Saddle Road. In Div. G, firefighters are strengthening containment around Bull Mountain with support from aviation assets.
Weather: Yesterday brought highly dynamic and unstable conditions and today is expected to be similar only starting hotter and drier. Humidity will remain in the single digits across the entire area, including higher elevations. Winds are forecast to become erratic again this afternoon under unstable conditions. Thunderstorms may develop in western Wyoming and could impact the fire area. Overnight recovery is unlikely.
Closures: Closures include Buffalo Creek Road at the cattle guard, closed to all traffic, and eastbound Black Mountain Road from Cowboy Mine Road. Updates are available at
Evacuations: Evacuations are in place for Buffalo Creek Road between Jones Creek Road and Reck Road, extending to the Fremont County line. This includes Kirby Creek, Lake Creek, Bridger Creek, and the Pack Saddle area. Kirby Creek Road between Red Hole Road and Buffalo Creek Road was previously evacuated. Evacuations are in place for Fremont County zones 4 and 8 and zones 5 and 6 east of North Bridger to Nowood Road and Nowood Road to the Natrona County line.
