(Hot Springs County, WY) – The Rocky Mountain 2 Team has shared the Red Canyon Fire update for today, August 26, which indicates the fire remains at 124,709 acres and has moved up to 78% containment.
There are currently 210 personnel on scene.

Highlights: As full suppression objectives are met, the Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team will transfer command to the local unit Wednesday evening. A Type 4 organization will assume command of the fire and continue ongoing repair activities. Personnel are being released from the incident as the transition progresses over the next two days.

Operations: Crews remain engaged across all divisions, continuing suppression repair to restore areas impacted by firefighting operations. Division C/G is advancing repair work from Kirby Creek Road along the fire perimeter toward Division H. Division H is focused on identifying and mitigating any remaining heat while continuing suppression repair where the fire is contained and no longer poses threat of escape. Divisions O/N and M have largely completed their repair work and are now in patrol status. One helicopter remains assigned to the incident through the end of today’s shift.
Weather: Moderated temperatures and humidity will persist through the week and begin warming by the weekend. Monsoonal moisture brings a chance of rain and thunderstorms with outflow winds impacting the fire area today.
Evacuations and Road Closure: There are currently no road closures in effect related to the fire. Fremont County: As of 08/25/2025 at 12 p.m., Fremont County reduced all evacuation statuses with no evacuation recommendation. Safety: Suppression repair efforts continue around the fire perimeter, including along roads. Please use caution when driving in the area, as firefighters and heavy equipment may be present. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) has been lifted.
