(Hot Springs County, WY) – The Rocky Mountain 2 Team has shared the Red Canyon Fire update for today, August 25, which indicates the fire remains at 124,709 acres and 75% containment.
There are currently 243 personnel on scene.
“As full suppression objectives are met, crews across all divisions are shifting focus to suppression repair,” today’s update informs. “Personnel continue to be released from the incident as the Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Mangement Team 2 is beginning to transfer command back to the home unit. This will occur over the next few days working with the local agency and cooperators to ensure a smooth transition.”
The Fremont County Emergency Management Agency also shared today that there are no longer any evacuation orders/warnings for Fremont residents.

Operations: Mop-up and patrol efforts continue throughout the fire. Crews are persistent across all divisions with suppression repair to rehab the impacts of firefighting efforts to the landscape. Efforts are complete on the north side around Wildhorse Butte, and suppression repair will continue to focus on the Kirby Creek Road corridor again today. A majority of aircraft were released yesterday to assist with other incidents nationally; one helicopter will remain assigned to the fire.
Weather: Temperatures are expected to remain consistent with current conditions, possibly reaching the mid 80s. There is a chance of thunderstorms today with the possibility of northerly outflow winds up to 40 mph.
Closures: Closures include Buffalo Creek Road at the cattle guard, which is closed to all traffic, and eastbound Black Mountain Road from Cowboy Mine Road. Updates are available here.
