(Fremont County, WY) – The National Weather Service in Riverton (NWSR) has shared that a Red Flag Warning will be in effect for Fremont County today, September 26, from 12 PM to 7 PM.
The warning was issued due to unseasonably warm temperatures (highs in the 80’s), strong gusty winds (up to 35 mph) and relatively low humidity (as low as 10%), all of which could cause erratic fire behavior.
The warning is also in effect for Natrona, Sweetwater and Johnson counties.
Burning of any kind is discouraged.
“A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now….or will shortly. A combination of strong winds…low relative humidity…and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.“
