(Fremont County, WY) – The National Weather Service in Riverton (NWSR) has shared that a Red Flag Warning will be in effect for Fremont County starting today, September 29, at 11 AM, until 7 PM tomorrow, September 30.
The warning was issued due to unseasonably warm temperatures (highs in the lower 80’s), strong gusty winds (up to 40 mph) and relatively low humidity (as low as 11%), all of which could cause erratic fire behavior.
The warning is also in effect for Hot Springs, Washakie, Natrona, Uinta, Lincoln, Sublette, Sweetwater and Johnson counties.
Burning of any kind is discouraged.
“A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now….or will shortly. A combination of strong winds…low relative humidity…and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.“
