(Fremont County, WY) – The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a red flag warning for much of central and northwest Wyoming for today, August 6 (from 12 PM until 7 PM), and tomorrow, August 7 (from 12 PM until 8 PM).
In addition to Fremont, the warning includes Natrona, Hot Springs, Johnson, Park, Washakie, and Sublette Counties.
Low humidities (as low as 14-20% for Tuesday and 12% for Wednesday), hot temperatures (upper 80’s and 90’s), strong gusty winds (up to 30 mph for Tuesday and 35 mph for Wednesday), and increasing thunderstorm activity could cause erratic fire behavior.
“A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now….or will shortly. A combination of strong winds…low relative humidity…and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.”
