(Fremont County, WY) – The National Weather Service in Riverton (NWSR) has shared that a Red Flag Warning will be in effect for Fremont County today, September 9, from 12 PM to 8 PM.
The warning was issued due to unseasonably warm temperatures (highs in the mid 80’s), strong gusty winds (10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph and storm outflow localized gusts up to 50 mph) and relatively low humidity (as low as 14%), all of which could cause erratic fire behavior.
Burning of any kind is discouraged.
“A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now….or will shortly. A combination of strong winds…low relative humidity…and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.“
