(Riverton, WY) – The Riverton City Council will hold a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, in the Council Chambers at Riverton City Hall, 816 N. Federal Blvd.
The agenda for the meeting includes the selection of council president and vice president by voice vote.
City staff said the process by which the selections were made earlier this month was challenged by a member of the local media.
“The practice of selecting leadership positions by individual ballot, collected and counted by two individuals, has been in place for several years,” staff said in a memo available in the agenda linked above. “This is the first time it has been challenged by either a member of the public or media.”
“The city takes seriously its responsibility to open meeting law requirements, and since a question about the ballot has been raised, the city has chosen to cure any possible violation by re-performing the selection of council president and vice president by holding a voice vote for each position.”
The council will also receive a fiscal year 2023-2024 audit report on Tuesday and consider approving the mayor appointment of Kimberly Hummel to serve on the Riverton Rendezvous Balloon Committee.
Other items on the agenda include:
- authorize the public works director to submit a grant application to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity grant program to improve Airport Road
- approve the selection of HDR Inc. Consultants for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Process Upgrade Project funded by the Wyoming Community Development Authority
- optional half percent excise tax discussion
An executive session regarding personnel will be held before adjournment.
Tuesday’s meeting will be preceded by a 6:45 p.m. Finance Committee meeting in the same location.
Both meetings are open to the public for in-person attendance and will be streamed live on the city’s YouTube channel, where past meeting recordings are stored.
