(Riverton, WY) – The Riverton Police Department recently announced the retirement of Captain Wes Romero, whose final day was on May 30.
County 10 happened to catch/record a portion of Romero’s “last call” on the police scanner last week when the announcement was made.
“After dedicating over 25 years to law enforcement, primarily in the Fremont County area, he has made the heartfelt decision to embark on a new adventure,” the RPD announcement post states.
“Throughout his career, Captain Romero has been a steadfast figure in the community, consistently going above and beyond to ensure the safety and well-being of residents. Colleagues and community members alike admired his leadership style, which combined authority with compassion. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication and integrity, and his presence in the department will be greatly missed. His departure marks the end of an era for the Riverton Police Department, but his influence will undoubtedly persist in the approaches he helped shape and the lives he touched. The community is grateful for his years of service and wishes him all the best in his future endeavors.”
RPD Chief Eric Hurtado later told County 10 that the Department is “currently testing applicants for his position.”
“Under the new staffing model, there will be a patrol Lieutenant and an Administrative Lieutenant. Captain Romero will have a newly appointed Lieutenant take on his role.”
Romero is set to be recognized at this week’s City Council meeting.
