(Riverton, WY) – The Riverton Police Department announced that it is looking to re-establish its volunteer Police Cadet program after a 10-year hiatus, and will be holding an informational meeting on Saturday, March 7th, 11:00 AM, at the Riverton Police Department (816 N Federal Blvd.).
The program is for youths ages 14-20.
RPD Chief Eric Hurtado shared with County 10 that the program will start back up if there is enough interest, and that it aims to “allow high school and college students the opportunity to learn more about all aspects of the public safety field.”
“The cadets will learn about the different jobs involved in their community, whether it’s aspirations of getting into a law enforcement role, attorney, prosecutor, judge, dispatching, animal control, or victim assistance,” Chief Hurado said. “There are many jobs out there. We want the opportunity to educate students in the many jobs available.”
Chief Hurtado added that “Several people in uniform today have been in a similar program while in their school years.”
