(Hot Springs County, WY) – The Rocky Mountain 2 Team has shared the final Red Canyon Fire update today, August 27, which indicates the fire remains at 124,709 acres and has moved up to 80% containment.
As previously shared, Team 2 will transfer command to the local unit at 6 PM this evening, and a Type 4 organization will assume command of the fire. As such, this will be the final update for the Red Canyon Fire from Team 2 unless fire conditions change. After the transition, the incident email account, the official fire information Facebook page, and the incident phone will no longer be monitored.
“The Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team 2 would like to sincerely thank our partners, cooperators, and residents for welcoming the team and supporting suppression efforts,” Team 2 shared. “Together, we accomplished the mission while maintaining both public and firefighter safety.”

Operations: The majority of suppression repair efforts are completed in Division C/G, Division O/N, and Division M, and remain in patrol status. Today, repair work continues along Lake Creek Road and Pack Saddle Road. Division H remains primarily in patrol status. All aviation has been released from the fire.
Weather: Moderate temperatures and humidity will persist through the week, with a warming trend expected by the weekend. Monsoonal moisture will bring a chance of rain and thunderstorms, with potential outflow winds impacting the fire area.
Evacuations and Road Closure: As of 7 pm on August 26, Hot Springs County has lifted all evacuations. There are currently no evacuations or road closures for the fire.
Safety: Firefighters continue repair and patrol activities in the fire area, including along roads. Please use caution when driving in the area, as firefighters and heavy equipment may be present. The Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) has been lifted.
