(Riverton, WY) – The Riverton Police Department has shared additional details pertaining to the March 31 incident involving a reported assault with a firearm and subsequent standoff with police, including the identity of the subject as well as the means law enforcement used to detain him.
The subject has been identified as 26-year-old Cole Walker of Riverton, who had “allegedly armed himself with a handgun and was threatening family members,” according to today’s April 1 release.
After Walker reportedly barricaded himself in a residence crawlspace near E Main Street, a total of 15 officers from multiple agencies arrived on scene, including the RPD, the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, and Wyoming Highway Patrol.
The release states that police were “able to stream live video from the recently purchased AXON/Drone to provide up-to-the-second information to on-scene officers,” a technology the RPD purchased after the Riverton City Council’s approval in 2025.
“This technology provides life-saving technology so 1st responders can make decisions on situations where officers and the public can be endangered,” the RPD said in the release.
The incident was ultimately resolved “peacefully,” with no injuries reported.
“The Riverton Police Department extends the appreciation to the Fremont County Sheriff’s office and Wyoming Highway Patrol for assisting our Riverton Officers during the incident,” the release concludes. “Special gratitude to our Riverton 911 Dispatch center personnel who coordinated Law Enforcement, off-duty officers, Riverton FD and Frontier Ambulance personnel to stand-by for an emergency and Riverton Public Works to block off the area.”
